About Us

Serving Sinhala Villages with Purpose for Over 30 Years
The Thawalama Development Foundation is a registered Non-Governmental and Social Service Organization (NGO/SSO), formally recognized in 2002, with a legacy that began in February 1994. We were established in response to a critical moment in Sri Lanka’s history—when Sinhala peasant families in the Yan Oya Basin were under severe threat due to the ongoing conflict and acts of terrorism by the LTTE.
Our foundation was born to protect, support, and empower these vulnerable communities, ensuring their right to live and cultivate in their ancestral lands with dignity, safety, and opportunity.

Our Evolving Mission
Today, our mission continues with greater urgency and broader scope. We are dedicated to:
- Supporting Sinhala rural communities in the Eastern, Northern, and North Central Provinces
- Resisting systemic harassment and efforts of ethnic cleansing against Sinhala populations
- Preserving archaeological evidence and Buddhist heritage sites that document more than 2,000 years of Sinhala-Buddhist civilization in these regions
We stand not only for protection—but for the revival and long-term sustainability of these communities and their history.
Our Vision
A future where Sinhala rural communities live with dignity, security, and opportunity in their rightful homelands—where their history is preserved, their livelihoods are protected, and their voices are heard.
- No Sinhala family is forced to leave their ancestral land.
- Traditional livelihoods like farming and village industry are protected, modernized, and passed on to future generations.
- Buddhist cultural and archaeological sites are preserved with pride and defended against destruction or erasure.
- National unity and cultural coexistence are strengthened by truth, justice, and equal rights—not by fear or silence.
Join Us in Our Mission
Together, we can secure a future where every rural Sinhala family can live with security, opportunity, and pride in their ancestral land.
